City Shapers: Funding application

This form is to apply for the new youth civic action programme, City Shapers. Before you complete this form, please read this for full details of the funding available and their requirements.

There isn't an option to save the form and come back to it. We recommend answering these questions on a word document and then once you have finished, copying and pasting them in to submit.

The deadline is Monday 11th August 9am. We will confirm whether you have received a grant by Monday 18th August.
Before You Start: We’re really looking forward to hearing about your ideas for a youth civic action programme. This funding is about supporting real impact in communities, led by people who know their young people best. When we assess applications, we’ll be looking for: - Target Group Fit: a clear focus on under-represented young people aged 14 and over - Quality of Delivery Plan: simple, practical plans that include holiday periods - Commitment to Youth Voice: young people shape and lead the work - Impactful: how your work will support young people to grow, gain skills, and contribute to their communities - Responsible Use of Funds: how the £17,466 will maximise impact for young people
We understand AI tools can be helpful when drafting applications, however we encourage you to speak in your own voice and reflect your lived experience and local knowledge where possible. Generic or overly polished answers don’t always show the heart of your work. You can find guidance on this from The National Lottery Community Fund here.

About the young people you work with

3. Tell us about a time when a young person at your organisation volunteered in their community or worked on a project that created a change?

For this question we would like to hear from a young person attending your organisation. It can be answered in multiple ways.

- A video from a young person (or group) (1min 30 seconds max)

- A voice note from a young person (or group) (1min 30 seconds max)

- A written answer from a young person (200 words max)

- A pre-existing case study which includes voices of young people (200 words max)

Please note: we understand the time constraints of this application and our assessment criteria places equal weight on each of these options.

Proposed project plan
4. Tell us how you plan to deliver your programme from August 2025 to April 2026, during term time and school holidays. You should include:
  • Recruitment: Outreach methods, partnerships, or strategies that will help you recruit young people who are least likely to access these opportunities and keep them engaged throughout the programme
  • Timeline of Sessions & Support: What you plan to deliver and when
  • Summer 2025 Plans: Do you plan to backdate any summer delivery? Please note this is not a requirement.
  • Estimated Outputs: How many young people you'll reach and how many sessions you expect to deliver
  • Key Staff Involved: Who’s delivering the work and their roles. List any organisations or partners you want to work with to deliver this project.
We do not need to know the actual content of your youth civic action project yet, as that will be decided by your young people. Rather we're looking to understand how you plan to support your young people in the development and delivery of their project.
Below is an example of the level of detail we would expect: August ‘25: 4 sessions with average of 20 young people per session = 80 attendances
  • 2 x 1 hour leadership skills workshop by Laura Flynn, trusted external delivery partner
  • 2 x 1 hour youth volunteering (football coach training) supported by lead sports coach
