Our City Our Resilience – Young Londoner’s Survey

We are the Mayor’s Fund for London, a charity that champions opportunities for young Londoners facing the biggest barriers. Together with the London Resilience Unit, we are carrying out a project to make sure young people’s voices are heard in emergency planning for the city.

This survey is about hearing from young Londoners aged between 16-25 on how prepared you feel for different emergencies – such as floods, pandemics, power cuts, or the cost of living crisis. Your views will help shape how London supports young people before, during and after tough situations.

What do we mean by resilience? Resilience can mean different things, so here’s how we’re using it in this project:

Personal resilience is about how you cope, adapt and recover from challenges in your own life.

Community resilience is about how groups of people – like families, neighbourhoods or whole boroughs – work together and support each other when there’s a big disruption or crisis.

In this survey, we’re most interested in community resilience and how young Londoners can be part of making the city safer and stronger. But we know your personal experiences are part of this too, so we welcome both.

This survey is anonymous. At the end, you’ll have the option to enter a prize draw for Amazon vouchers by providing your email. Your survey answers and prize draw entry will be stored separately.

It should take 5–10 minutes to complete and works best on a smartphone or computer.

About You
We just want to know a bit about you so we can hear from young people across all of London. Where you live, your background, or your situation can affect how ready you feel for emergencies and your answers help us make things fairer and more useful for everyone.

Awareness of Risks and Resilience
This section is about what resilience means to you and how confident you feel in handling big challenges like floods, power cuts, or a pandemic.
We'd also like to know where you normally get your information from (e.g. social media, friends, school, or college).
Your answers will help us understand how young people think about resilience and risk and what support or information might be missing,

What do we mean by “risk”?
When we say risk, we mean the chance that something disruptive could happen - like flooding, a cyber-attack, or a transport shutdown.
It doesn’t mean danger is guaranteed, but that it’s possible, and communities plan ahead so we’re ready if it does.

There's no wrong or right answer - we just want to know how clear the idea feels.

Experience and Concerns
Here we want to hear about what you’ve experienced and what worries you most about the future. Whether it’s the cost of living, climate change or transport issues, your answers help us understand what feels real and important to young people in London. Sharing how past emergencies have affected you helps us see what kinds of support make a difference and what’s still missing.

Looking ahead, please rank these from 1 (most impact on your life) to 5 (least impact).

Please only use each number once.

Cost of Living or Housing

Climate Change or Extreme Weather

Health Emergencies

Cyber-attacks or online disruptions

Social or Civil Unrest
e.g. pandemics
e.g. protests or demonstrations

Contributions and Ideas

This is where we flip the focus from “what’s happening to you” to “what can you do.”
We want your ideas on how young people can help make London more resilient and how you’d like to be involved in planning or decision-making.

Your ideas could shape how the city works with young people in the future — from youth boards to creative campaigns or volunteering.
